I was 12 when my mother and I scooped up a small vanity at a local flea market. It took me so long to scrape the many layers of paint that I chuckle at the memory. For many people, this probably would have been their last refinishing project. For me, it was the first old piece of furniture that I lovingly restored into something new and precious. I still have that beautiful vanity and doubt I will ever part with it.
My obsession with restoring cast-off items has brought me along a remarkable journey. I have co-owned two retail locations, reworked hundreds of items, and have helped many customers by re-imagining that perfect piece for their home.
Along the way, I stumbled onto the lampshade-making business. I had restored many vintage lamps, but was rarely able to find the right lampshades. So I taught myself how to make a wide variety of custom lampshades, as well as how to re-wire and restore the lamps themselves. I have found my niche and today I have recovered, reworked and hand-made hundreds of lampshades in all shapes and sizes, both hard sided and hand sewn. Today making custom lampshades is the primary focus of my business but I still enjoy painting and restoring furniture pieces as well.
