Photo Lampshades and Great food

Happy Valentines Day! It was so nice to enjoy dinner with my two valentines tonight at my favorite restaurant, O’Connor’s Restaurant & Bar located at 1160 West Boylston Street, Worcester, MA.

My husband and I have been enjoying the famous food, best brews, and genuine hospitality at O’Connor’s Restaurant for more than 25 years. What a treat it was to retrieve a message from the owner Brendan asking me to create some unique lampshades for his restaurant using the beautiful photographs of Ireland taken by Ron Rosenstock.

If you are looking for a fantastic meal, friendly atmosphere, and an artistic glimpse of Ireland, then O’Connor’s is the place to go. Please be sure to tell Brendan that the Lampshade Lady sent you!

A special thank you to my new friends also enjoying dinner tonight.

A Tale Of 3 Tables (Part 2)

It was a dining room without a table for a few weeks until things came together.

From time to time I just get an itch to check out some of the local thrift shops in my area. One day, I felt the incredible urge to visit my local Restore. I was driving on the highway, and suddenly I was turning around as if being controlled by some form of supernatural power. I arrived at the Restore, and there it was. The perfect trestle table for my dining room.

It measured six feet and had two 12” leaves to bring it to 8 feet. Perfect! I was even able to pop it into the back of my RAV 4, and along I went. The table top was completely sanded down before nightfall, and the next day the painting and finishing were underway. I was eager to try out a weathered vinegar process that I had been experimenting with, and it came out fantastic.

A white wash was added on top to give it a driftwood-like finish.
I used a light green color for the base and then outlined it in linen white.
This table was perfect, well almost. I will explain more in Part 3. 🙂

Mid Century Modern Lamp Restoration

A dear friend came to me seeking my assistance in restoring this pair of lamps handed down from her father in Law.
Fortunately the original shades and diffusers were located in the basement of the home by her husband who had remembered them from his childhood.
The fittings were solid brass and with some persistent polishing they came out really nice. The wood refinished nicely and diffusers were repainted also.
Topped off with remade linen shades this pair looks ready for the set of Mad Men. As an added treat we found out that these table lamps are Gerald Thurston for Lightolier.

A Tale of 3 Tables (Part 1)

Sometimes finding the perfect piece for your home takes a bit of trial and error. When I set out to re-design my tiny dining room into a space large enough to comfortably seat more than four it turned out to be quite a process. I created a built in bench to attach to the wall. It was created using salvaged doors. (Photos to follow in part 3 of this series) My plan was to have a nice long table in front of the bench. I located a listing for a table and set of chairs on our local web sale site.

It was perfect or so I thought…. After selling the chairs that I did not need, I soon realized that I needed a trestle table instead. Needless to say, this piece was turned into a commissioned sale.

The new owner picked out the paint color and stain for the piece and I refinished it to order.
I am so very happy it found it’s new life in such a beautiful home.
